Retro dolls, CHINA, 2019.
Mini studio project. Why are children around the world all playing with Caucasian, blue eyed and blonde dolls? Why do we impose this standard of “white” beauty? And why so early? Nowadays the situation is finally getting better. But it took a long time. Going against the typical “Barbie” codes of traditional dolls, we styled and made up several models from different ethnical backgrounds, following different eras in time (The 20s, 30s, rockabilly, Disco/70s, 80s,…), to show what barbie-dolls could have looked like, if they were a bit more representative of the women of the world.
